I volunteered at the Boston Calling II Music Festival on September 7 and 8. I did an array of things from directing people to various stations, checking tickets for staff workers, to the lost and found table. I was actually really excited because this was my first time seeing popular performers live. I usually see local performers at City Hall Plaza for free events but this was just different. The festival brought out a very vibrant, lively crowd and I have never seen such a thing in my life. I was super excited to see Solange perform. She is justt……. ugh….the best. I can’t really put it into words, but if your a lover of soul, soft punk, and hint of pop then you know what I mean, right? Furthermore, it was a good venue to be exposed to music that I never knew of, like Vampire Weekend, Flosstradamus, Passion Pit, and many more. Out of all the music that I was never exposed to, I enjoyed The Gaslight Anthem the most.
Kendrick Lamar had me in tears by the end of his performance. Cliche? Yea I guess but I am actually not really a fan of his. I appreciate his artistry and I am a big believer but I am also critical, especially since I am on the journey of learning, not only how the industry works, but what hip hop music is, in its bare form. It is so easy to get in the hype and love K.Dot, just because you like a couple of his tracks or because the masses say so. I surely did. However, as a person who is musically oriented (definitely not muscially inclined haha), I am teaching myself, with the guidance of music experts, to UNDERSTAND music. Basically, I went to see Lamar perform with an open-mind, I did not scream or chant, I just stood there, lived in the moment, and took it all in. As music lovers, it is hard to experience music for yourself. Oftentimes (and I believe most of the time), people (in which I really mean society) experience music for us by hyping up or elevating certain genres or types of music, while diminishing other GOOD music that we might benefit from…..I could go on and on about this but I’ll spare my dear readers…. Enjoy the pics!

I volunteered at the Boston GreenFest on Friday, August 16. I helped supervise different booths from EcoFashion to EcoTech. Also, the biggest portion of my day was spent in the children’s section at the bouncy house obstacle courses. During my break, I tagged along Tyler and Taylor (twins) and Hannah. We visited every corner of the festival and enjoyed some free healthy food, drink, and candy. The best part of our tour was getting inside hybrid cars that were on display from Nissan, Zipcar, and various other companies.
On the the BOSTON GREENFEST stage !!!! This Thursday to Saturday
I will be volunteering at the Fest this weekend, if you wanna come HMU!!
